| 1. SEPTEMBER 15: "AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH" -- SHOWING & DISCUSSION |
Saturday, September 15, 1 pm Newton Free Library, Druker Library Co-sponsored by the Green Decade, Green Energy Newton and the Newton Free Library FREE
Even if you've already seen Al Gore's film –
and especially if you haven't – join us for this showing! GDC Energy
Chair Prof. Eric Olson (Brandeis University) will lead the discussion
afterwards. In Eric's view, shared by many, Gore's 100-minute film
does a good job describing the science and the politics surrounding
this issue, but is less effective at describing solutions. Eric will
briefly describe ways of tackling global warming that can form a basis
for your individual and political next-step actions, and he will
encourage audience commentary on both the film and possible solutions.
BONUS: We will also draw the winning tickets for the Green Decade raffle
prizes after the movie showing and before the discussion. Winners need
not be present to win, but must purchase raffle tickets before 2 pm on
Sept. 15. Raffle tickets may be purchased online or by mail: contact raffle@greendecade.org or come to our Green Decade table at the Newton Farmers Markets on Tuesdays and Fridays. |

about every three weeks, and are guided by a Global Action Plan
workbook and a coach.
One team is definite and there is room for a few more people for a second team. Please sign up by September 15 as programs will begin in late September. | 4. SEPTEMBER ENVIRONMENTAL SHOW: "EXTENSION OF THE GREEN LINE THROUGH UPPER FALLS TO NEEDHAM" |
Through September 30 Host: Beverly Droz, Green Decadae Guests: Dr. Sradjan Nedeljkovic, James O'Connell
The
September Environmental Show features interviews with Dr. Srdjan
Nedeljkovic, physician and author of a comprehensive report on the
extension of the Green Line through Newton Upper Falls into Needham,
and with James O'Connell of the National Parks Service, a historian
with an interest in street railways in Newton. Both guests are Newton
residents and they will discuss the benefits of this extension for
Newton residents and the environment. Compared to other communities,
this is the most economic extension of the T anywhere, with a win-win
situation for all. Among other benefits, carbon monoxide will be cut
by 100 tons and carbon dioxide will be reduced by 2500 tons. More information about the September program is available at greendecade.org/environmentTV. The Environment Show is broadcast on the NewTV Blue channel (Comcast Chan. 10, RCN Chan. 15, Verizon Chan. 34): Mondays 3:00 p.m. Tuesdays 1:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. Wednesdays 11:30 a.m. Thursdays: 12:00, 4:00 and 7:30 p.m. Saturdays: 10:00 a.m. |

friends
from the Angino Farm are also at both markets this year, so stop by to
see us all!
