| 1. NOVEMBER 3: STEP IT UP 2 - NATIONAL DAY OF CLIMATE ACTION |
Saturday, November 3 from 2:00-4:00 pm Newton City Hall 1000 Commonwealth Avenue Newton Centre
Join Newton residents, environmental and political leaders, and green business entrepreneurs in raising awareness for the importance of action on climate change. This is one of the nationwide rallies against global warming on this day in every state. And Newton will be represented as a municipal leader on environmental issues.
We need you in the photo we will send to Congress with your hybrid, bike or other sustainable means of transport (your feet!).
In April 2007, Newton joined in the first ever StepItUp2007 event. We need to keep our commitment growing. For more information about the national movement, check out the letter from Bill McKibben, founder and leading environmental author and thinker, at www.StepItUp2007.org. |

| 2. NOVEMBER 7: PUBLIC HEARING ON SOLID WASTE CONTRACT AND RECYCLING |

Please join the GDC subcommittee CREW (Citizens for Responsible Waste Management) in recommending that the Board of Aldermen choose a 32 gallon refuse bin (same size as most garbage bins) rather than a 64 gallon refuse bin which would allow those who are not recycling to continue not to recycle. | 3. NOVEMBER 10: "INSULATING YOUR OLDER HOME" WORKSHOP |

your home properly is one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways
to minimize your energy waste and maximize your energy dollars. And
despite what you may have heard, it is possible to weatherize your
older home without compromising its historical character. This workshop
will include hands-on demonstration of various energy-saving tools,
such as blower doors and infrared cameras. We'll also take an objective
look at the different products and techniques for increasing energy
efficiency. Learn how you can stay warm this winter, save money, and
reduce your ecological footprint at the same time.
The workshop will be held at The Jackson Homestead
(527 Washington St., Newton); proceeds will go to The Green Decade
Coalition and the Newton Historical Society. For more information or

| 4. DECEMBER 1 & 2: "URBAN ARK" SEMINAR AND TOUR |

David and Elva DelPorto, to learn how they have transformed their
Newton Centre home into a model of sustainable design. Tour their
"“Urban Ark” and discover how they've integrated space heat, food
production, air purification, and wastewater treatment within an
amazing two-story solar greenhouse. They'll share their successes and
failures, and show you how to invest your time and money to get the
most benefit from the least effort. With rising fuel and water prices
and dwindling resources, there's no time like the present to learn
methods that can provide environmental and economic security for you
and your family. Directions to the meeting point will be provided to
registrants; proceeds will go to The Green Decade Coalition.

| 5. NOVEMBER ENVIRONMENT SHOW: "ENERGY OPTIONS FOR THE 21st CENTURY", WITH STEPHEN CONNORS |
Through November Host: Beverly Droz, Green Decade Guests: Stephen Connors, Analysis Group for Regional Energy Alternatives at MIT
It features an interview with Newton resident Stephen Connors, Director of the Analysis Group for Regional Energy Alternatives (AGREA)
at MIT's Laboratory for Energy and the Environment. Connors is one of
the prime movers of the Boston’s Alt-Wheels festival, held each fall at
Boston’s City Hall Plaza. Alt-Wheels provides the public information
about alternative transportation and energy.
By mobilizing to
address the energy crisis at all levels of our society, Connors
believes that the push and pull of the market will create a way out of
fossil fuel dependency. Funding for research and development at
federal, state and local levels is critical to implementing new
approaches. . The actions of local groups and individual citizens have
a big influence on those who create policy to achieve energy
