1. URBAN ARK SEMINAR & TOUR: A MODEL OF GREEN LIVING    THIS WEEKEND!
Saturday December 5 10:00 am-12:00 pm
Sunday December 6 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
$20; $15 for Students & Green Decade members
David & Elva Del Porto, Instructors
To register or for more information: Urban Ark coordinator Fran Seasholes at 617-969-5927.

A higher quality of life at a lower cost of living - what could be better? David Del Porto and his wife, Elva, have spent 25 years turning this vision into a reality. Today, their Newton Centre home is a model of sustainable design. You'll tour their "Urban Ark," and discover how they've integrated space heat, food production, air purification, and wastewater treatment within an amazing two-story greenhouse. They'll share the successes and failures of their quest for green living, and show you how to invest your time and money to get the most benefit from the least effort. And with rising fuel and water prices and dwindling resources, there's no time like the present to learn methods that can provide environmental and economic security for you and your family. Directions to the meeting point will be provided to registrants; proceeds will go to The Green Decade/Newton.

2. NEWTON CLIMATE ACTION CANDLELIGHT VIGIL
Saturday December 12, 4:00-5:00 pm
Newton Centre, near the corner of Centre and Beacon Streets

The Saturday in the middle of the UN climate negotiations in Copenhagen will be an important day for the global climate movement -- it's the midway point in the UN talks, and an important mobilization opportunity for cities around the world.  Many rallies are being planned by 350.org as part of the Weekend of Climate Action (December 11-13).   All are welcome to join us in Newton Centre where we will light candles of hope to stand in solemn solidarity with the citizens of the nations whose very survival is threatened by the climate change.

MCAN is co-sponsoring the Boston vigil on Friday, December 11, 6:00-7:00 pm, outside Senator John Kerry's office.

3. NEWTON HOME ENERGY EFFICIENCY: ONLINE!
Reducing energy use starts with knowing where you stand!  Thanks to the Green Decade members and friends who have already filled out the energy spreadsheet from the November/December Green News and added to our Newton Home Energy Use Database.   At this time we have received spreadsheets from approximately 2% of our membership and would like to get information from more of you. We now have an interactive spreadsheet on our website, as your inspiration to get the job done!  Find out more about measuring your home energy use and the database at www.greendecade.org -- help win the race to reduce energy consumption before it's too late!
