Our community must continue to conserve and respect our environmental resources in all aspects of our lives. Reaching out to the next generation, the Green Decade offers the 2012 Environmental Art Contest, open to Newton students in grades K-5, living or attending school in Newton. Join more than 600 Newton students who have participated in the Environmental Art Contests over the last 5 years!

New this year: Afterschool Program Category!

Students may register on-line Individual or Team to participate in this year's contest.

All of this year's contest entries will be displayed at the Newton Cultural Center during the month of April.

CONTEST GUIDELINES
(both individual and teams)

"If I were President, I would

to make America greener!"

  • Eligibility: All students in grades K-5 who live or go to school in Newton
  • Participants may enter as an individual or in teams of 2, 3 or 4 children.
  • Artwork formats:
    • 2-dimensional posters (11"x17" maximum)
    • Sculptures (1 cubic foot -- 12" x 12" x 12" max)
    • iMovies (3 minutes maximum length)
  • Use of recycled materials encouraged
  • May use photographs/collage and text
  • Use correct spelling! (suggested by our 2010 judges)
  • All entries in the same grade will be judged together, whether team or individual.
  • Afterschool Program teams will be judged as a separate category.
  • Artwork may be submitted at your school or designated locations
  • All entries must be submitted by February 27!

JUDGING: All entries will be judged using a blind judging process — judges will not know the name of the entrant, and all entries will be judged within their grade level (K, 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5) or the afterschool program category. Instructions are listed on the contest information page.

PRIZES:

  • Green Medalist (1st place) winners for each grade and the afterschool program category will receive a basket of eco-friendly/non-toxic art supplies ($35 value)
  • Each student who enters will receive a certificate of participation

Art Basket Raffle!

  • All contestants will be automatically entered into a raffle to win a $35 eco-art supply basket, with the winning name to be drawn at the Awards Ceremony. (Note: Prize winners’ names will not be entered into the raffle.)
